There are very few movies I watch that stick, Banshees of Inisherin is one of them. It is a movie everyone must watch. It’s the story of a man and his quest for meaning, friendship and reconciliation. Please go and watch it.
But that movie alone is not why I am writing this short piece. I am writing it because of Ireland. There’s something about Ireland that is perplexing and intriguing and deserves to be studied. Irish men are one of a kind, the culture is brilliant and the names are a mouthful.
Banshees of Inisherin is brilliant also because it is shot in Ireland. The Irish scenery is mild and loving, matter of fact, I want to visit Donegal County someday because of its lonely hills and lush plains. In the Land of Saint and Sinners, another good movie starring Liam Neeson, was shot in Donegal, Banshees of Inisherin was shot down southwest in County Mayo.
There’s a reason why Banshees of Inisherin features at the top of so many people’s best movies. Part of the reason is because the movies story depicts the culture of the Irish. Say Nothing is another TV show about The Troubles and yet again, it is brilliant. A consistent theme with Irish-themed movies is the sombre tone with which their stories are told. It’s subtle yet strong and firm.
There you go.
Miracle.
