It’s the end of 2023. It was a good year for one-half of Miracle’s Bedside. Thank you for riding with me throughout the year. Let’s do some review, shall we?
Our most-read story this year was Pillow 038, followed by Pillow 051. These stories are over seven months apart but they share a similarity in that I leaned into my personal experiences at various times to give these commentaries bordering on religion, politics and life. We had 20 Pillows this year and while we could have done better, it’s not a bad number considering the upheavals and the numerous times I had to avoid the news cycle this year.
A lot of people liked our Digress, which is the section where I took a break from serious news commentary to talk about other things that were bothering me. A lot of my Digresses this year were of course around sneaky politicians and their sleazy ways, there were some sports and the occasional trendy news.
The US Congress featured a lot this year, no thanks to all the drama from there that dominated the news from McCarthy to Santos, there was also a lot of Nigerian politics given the elections and the aftermath. Some technology news commentary too but the biggest win of the year is that I got to share stories with you that I wanted to and not because I had to.
Yet again, Bedside was a massive outlet for me this year and like I explained last year, this is quite different from the blog on my website given that over there, I get to talk about serious stuff in a Houdini-like manner, but over here, I get to be free like a bird and I love it. I will be writing a couple of end-of-the-year articles on my personal blog, so do well to subscribe and head over there to read them in detail.
To end this year, let’s talk about Luciano Pavarotti. You know, he’s up there with Andrea Bocelli when it comes to the greatest tenors of modern times. So when he did the song with Tracy Chapman at the turn of the century, you know that was always going to be a classic. As we end the year and think about the news event that shook the word, one word that I think the world could have said more of this year is “I am sorry”. I hope that as you look at events, you’re able to see that honesty and apologies are better ways to get what you want and move ahead than strife and deceit.
No wonder Pavarotti says “sorry is all you can’t say, words like sorry don’t come easily”. He was cooking! Here’s Pavarotti in all his full element!
Perdonami
È uma parola che
Tu non dice mai
E non ti è facile dirme
Perdonami
Perdonami
I pray 2024 ushers in a new lease of world peace to the world; no pandemics, endemics, wars, clashes, crashes, bigotry, riots, rigging. But sadly, we know 2024 will be dominated by the US election cycle and I hope it will not be as toxic as it’s been simmering to be. Fingers crossed.
