DC Nigerians
Nigerians are incredible performers anywhere they find themselves. I was randomly looking at the data for the highest-paid government employees in DC and I came across this table below. Out of the 10 highest-paid DC employees, three are Nigerians. For all the things wrong with Nigeria, Nigerians are a special breed built to absorb adversity, persevere through hard times and dig their way to the top. There’s only one place where you will find the largest concentration of Nigerians and that is Nigeria but that geographical location has been hampered by poor leadership and people are wasting productive hours queuing for fuel. Imagine what that large concentration of Nigerians would achieve if we had a truly transformative Government. These three Nigerians earn more than their boss, the Mayor of DC. This can only happen in a society that has a functioning system. Nigeria please fix up.
Overtime
I like the concept of getting paid more than your boss because you outworked them. Strange but it actually happened in the Metro Police Department where a group of Sergeant Officers earned more than their boss and even the Mayor given the amount of overtime they worked. This story gives us an idea of a decentralized working future.
Paystack
Paystack is a monumental company; it changed the VC landscape in Africa and I only just learnt this week that Shola played a game of rock paper scissors and landed on selling to Stripe. They did not use an investment banker to manage an exit of $200m. Interesting.
Bob Marley
How many of you knew that No Woman No Cry was about Bob Marley consoling a woman who was going through domestic violence? So the song title should actually read No! Woman, don’t cry. For years, I always thought Bob said women were the source of tears. I feel relieved now because to be fair, the world would be a much tougher place without women, and there would be way more tears. We appreciate all the women who reduce the tears in our world.
Helicopter Crashes
The Iranian President died in a Helicopter crash alongside his Foreign Minister. I have so many thoughts and questions but I will keep them to myself You can read this and this for other people’s thoughts.
Honoris Causa
Joe Biden (read Dr. Joseph Robinette Biden) was conferred with an Honorary Degree by the Morehouse College and he was cheesing so hard. You could tell that he was really proud. In Nigeria, you can buy an Honoris Causa for as little as 2 million Naira if not less, which is why we have a barman, a lout and thieving politicians all with honorary degrees. No further comment.’
National Anthem
Nigeria changed its national anthem after some 50 years, they did not invent a new one, they just went back to the old one that was in use before. There’s nothing wrong in changing an anthem but the speed with which this was done, I think between the first reading and the signing of the bill into law, there was barely 10 days. It tells us that the people who rule in Nigeria know how to get things done but they would rather not do it because it does not benefit them. Enough said.
Always True!
