Yes, I am still here. I have been having the best time of my life. Actually, this year has been such a good year for me. I’ve not had a break when it comes to good things. Super super grateful.
I was listening to Malcolm Gladwell speak the other day and he mentioned that ever since he became a parent, every other thing in life has become less serious and pales in comparison to his kids. Like, when he gets a disappointing news, he just remembers his kids and he’s alright all over again. His kids, he says, are so hilarious that he now looks at things in the world with less seriousness. That is so profound.
I am going to share links to some of the things I have been listening to and some of the writings I have been up to.
In the same vein as Malcolm Gladwell, I have been doing a lot of fun poetry and writing, I post those on Medium. Medium is the place where I post things without thinking too much about it. Unlike Substack, where I have to think about my subscribers and the value I want to share with them. You can find my medium articles here. I have written about love, pa…mostly about love to be fair. Well, there was also another piece I wrote called Podium of Places (I’m really good with titles) which was a tongue-in-cheek attempt to describe the places where I have lived.
On my personal website, where I write really serious stuff. I have also been busy. I have written about Product Managers (if you want to be a good product manager, you should read it), I then wrote about Marriage (I write so much about love and marriage these days but that’s also because I am learning to “think again”, Adam Grant would be so proud). Then I wrote about Music, I actually like this one, I debated if I should post it on Medium or on my Blog, it’s the kind of tongue-in-cheek nostalgic story I’d usually tell to my Medium audience, not sure what the tipping point was but I ended up posting it on my Blog.
I have been reading and listening to a lot of things. I am currently reading three books; Dream Count by Chimamanda Adichie, Luck by Adam Tank and The Four Agreements by Miguel Ruiz. I still read The Guardian everyday, I check the New York Times but I get so busy these days that I mostly forget to play Wordle.
I have also been doing a lot of podcasts and it’s so funny how I got into this hole. I listened to Andrew Schulz somewhere, I can’t remember where now, but I saw a snippet from him talking about his new special and I was like, this dude sounds smart. So I searched on Youtube and watched most of the different podcasts where he appeared. He appeared on Bad Friends with Bobby Lee and Andrew Santino and that got me into Bad Friends, I watched a couple of their episodes and just get going, and then I followed Schulz to Kill Tony, Club Shay Shay, to Joe Rogan, Theo Von, to Pivot Podcast, and a couple more where he made an appearance and I just like the guy. Thing is, if not for Schulz, I probably would never listen to any of these podcasts (maybe except Rogan when he brings people I like) but following Schulz took me into uncharted territory and I kind of liked it.
Of course, I also watched his Netflix special and now love his own Flagrant Podcast, especially the latest episode with the NYC Mayor and the one about Divorce. I also got into Trevor Noah’s What Now, and watched the episodes with Chimamanda Adichie, Scott Galloway and Malcolm Gladwell. You should check these out on YouTube.
Finally, I have a newfound obsession for Irish films. It all started with Banshees of Inisherin (which I wrote about, check it out) and then I watched a couple of Liam Neeson flicks and now I am sold on anything Irish.
That’s about that for today’s updates, make sure to check out as many hyperlinks as you can. I will leave you with this profound quote from Scott Galloway that I can’t stop thinking about - “The rich are protected by the law but not bound by it but the poor are bound by the law and not protected by it”. Words on marble indeed.
Always True,
Miracle Roch.
